In February 2011, TAPT's Playground Day - you won't want to miss it!
Our New Plays Staged reading Series started with 2 new and wonderful plays which took place at a groovy space Theaterlab on 14th St:
Isola Femmina by Pamela Yaco - a fantastical play that takes place on an island known mainly as a folktale to frighten women into being "good girls". On the island 3 woman are being charged, quite possibly with death for with being unfaithful and unruly woman. Sent there by the male counterparts they must learn to believe in themselves and the power of the feminine. It was a wonderful and delightful play to produce and incredibly fun to be part of. Pamela is a talented and powerful woman with an incredible imagination and an indelible wit! The Cast included: The Judge - Jeffrey Hardy, Amina - Nichole Donje', Katherine - Simone Harrison, Julia the Younger - Karin de la Penha, Edamo - Max Rhyser, Calo - Mike Hill. Our stage directions were read by Mr/ S. Brian Jones who was also our incredible host for the night and Director - James Lawson. The response for this piece was wonderful. The audience loved it!
An Appearance of Desire, by Vanda. A radically different reading both in script and structure from Isola. Our wonderful director Laura Tesman took the actors to work with the little time we had with character work and presentation. An Appearance of Desire takes place in 1968 during the Vietnam War when the concept of power and struggle were at an utmost high. The story takes place at a West Virginia college where the one and only female professor at the college has struggled to keep her place and her self respect and now must fight a battle of her own; to be the woman she truly is or the woman she is "supposed" to be. She discovers and amazing talent in one of her students whom she grooms and grows to care for, but is then faced with an impossible decision when her job is threatened by her past. This is an amazing play filled with love, compassion, survival instinct and pain. The cast: Parker Daniels - Max Rhyser, Professor Elizabeth Linely - Nichole Donje', Wesley Yost - Taylor Proffitt, Professor Gordon Fishburn - Christopher LaPanta. Again our wonderful host S. Brian Jones welcomed and entertained our guests and read stage directions. Vanda found something deep in this piece...something that spoke to so many, I thank her as an actor and a producer...wow!
We are so very proud of this series. Our readings are unlike most. We foster community and get people talking both with our reception, which begins before the show and our talk back just after. We continue the reception which then also includes the artists. We introduce people to one another and work to get to know the audience. We want te people who join us to feel not only as if they saw a great play, but as if they spent the night with their community and friends.
Included in the FREE night are fun raffles, food and beverages! Join us and be a part of TAPT.
Our next 2 readings are scheduled for March & April 2011:
March 2011 - Deconstructing Family, a comedy by S. Brian Jones
April 2011 - World of Tomorrow, an epic historic piece about the infamous creator of New York City as we know it, Robert Moses. by Bill McMahon
